IMPACT OF BIO-DISC SOLAR DRYER ON PROXIMATE COMPOSITION OF CATFISH (CLARIAS GARIEPINUS)

Abstract
This research aimed at testing the impacts of the Bio-Disc Solar Dryer (BSD) on proximate composition of Clarias gariepinus. The fish samples were dried with and without bio-disc using the solar dryer. All analysis was carried out according to standard methods. The results showed that, the highest percentage protein composition was in Clarias gariepinus dried with bio disc solar dryer, with a mean value of 48.48±1.26%, while the least was in Clarias gariepinus dried with just the solar dryer (without bio disc in place) (43.58±0.45). Statistical analysis showed variation across all the parameters. This study shows that, Bio Disc Solar Dryer can be used to dry fish without loss in the quality of the nutrient composition. Further researchers should fucus on adopting the use of Bio-dics on other preservation methods/techniques in order to improve the quality of fish product
