Low-cost remote-controlled whiteboard cleaning system

Adekunle Taofeek Oyelami, Ayomide Ogunsemi, Olusola Akintunlaji.

Abstract
Whiteboards are widely used in almost every educational institute or working environment. Frequent manual
cleaning of the board can be quite laborious and time consuming. Thus, this work presents a remote-controlled
whiteboard cleaning system. The developed system uses sensors for movement control and Arduino UNO as
the microcontroller. The arrangement consists of other electronic components such as a four-channel relay
connected to the microcontroller for movement operation, the remote control was to operate the system and
sensors to obtain the necessary signals to ascertain the current position of the wiper. The system was integrated
with microcontroller using assembly language. With two ultrasonic sensors placed at both ends, the wiper will
automatically stop moving once it reaches the end of the board. The performance evaluation carried out on the
developed prototype system was satisfactory, hence suggesting that the system can be considered as a modern
teaching aid that will enhance productivity and efficiency.
